As you all know, it was Halloween a couple of weeks ago. This obviously meant candy and trick-or-treating, but for me it also meant a pile of horror books. I decided to wander out of my comfort zone of fantasy/contemporary/dystopian YA and try some more spooky books during October. I did read Through the Woods by Emily Carroll a while ago, which was a creepy graphic novel, and it was awesome but I haven’t read many scary books (especially not in the past couple of years).
The books I picked for my Halloween reads were:
2. Dracula by Bram Stoker
3. The Deep by Nick Cutter
4. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
5. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
6. Hollow City by Ransom Riggs
The thing with ‘scary’ books is that they don’t really scare me and I sometimes find the stories a little pointless. I mean, give me a revolution any day but finding a ghost? I don’t know. (Which is weird because I started Supernatural recently and I’m hooked). I read about half of the books on my TBR……… oh, wait. That’s a total lie. I didn’t finish The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer… I know a lot of people love this series and it isn’t that I disliked it, just the start is really slow and with university going on, I really wanted something that I could actually escape into and that hooked me from the beginning. So I may go back to this when the time is right. The two books I did finish were The Graveyard Book, which I enjoyed, and Say Her Name by James Dawson which I think was my favourite of the month. I hope to still get to the books I didn’t get to in this TBR, especially Hollow City!
I only just realised today that we are in fact halfway through November and yet I’m only just writing my November TBR, woah. University has been such a struggle, I have essays and projects, not to mention weekly readings. I’m finding it really difficult to keep up with everything. So, here is my November TBR… in the middle of November.
Currently, I’m reading Throne of Glass and I’m not very far into it but I am really enjoying it. I already love Celaena. And last, but definitely not least, I want/need/have to get to Snow Like Ashes! I’ve had this on my TBR for a long time. I actually got this book on its publication day and I didn’t realise how long its been until the sequel, Ice Like Fire was released recently! (Which I now have, too). So I really need to get to that this month too, especially with all of the great things I’ve heard!
Another book/series I want to start but is not on my TBR for this month is Cinder from the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. This series sounds fantastic, and the last book Winter came out this month and I’ve only heard great things about this series, too. I’ve also had the first book since June-ish… So, if I get through my TBR, I’ll definitely be picking that up next!
What have you read so far this month and what are you planning on reading? Have you read Twilight Reimagined?
