After picking up and absolutely loving Did I Mention I Love You? by Estelle Maskame, I knew I couldn’t wait any longer for the second book, Did I Mention I Need You? and requested it for review. Fortunately, the people over at Black and White Publishing were so lovely and had one sent out to me which literally arrived the next day so I am super thankful to Laura from Black and White Publishing for sending me a copy.
Stepsiblings Tyler Bruce and Eden Munro have spent two years ignoring their love for each other for the sake of their family, but when he invites her to spend the summer with him in New York, how long can they keep pretending? Alone together, away from their parents and friends, and caught up in the excitement of life in the Big Apple, they can’t deny their feelings any more.
As their summer fling turns into something much more serious, Tyler and Eden must face up to reality and make some life-changing decisions. But how will their family react when they confess their secret romance – and is their relationship strong enough to survive the devastating fallout?
I don’t know if I liked this book more than the first one but I definitely liked it just as much. As soon as I started reading I was back in Eden’s world and I forgot how fantastically written Estelle’s settings are. The previous book was set in LA, whereas this book is set in New York, and after reading both I feel like I’ve been to those places myself now.
One thing that really surprised me was how much Tyler has matured since the last book, it was so refreshing to see this new side of him. Eden herself has also matured quite a bit, though not as considerably as Tyler. If I’m remembering correctly, this book is set about two years after the first book and in that time quite a lot has changed. In the previous book, *SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE FIRST BOOK* Eden had called it off with Tyler, persuading him that they had to treat each other as step-siblings and step-siblings only. Now, Eden has convinced herself that since she can hide her old feelings for her step brother, it would be absolutely fine to go visit him for over a month in New York City. I think we can all guess how that turns out.
This book oozes forbidden romance, beautiful sightseeing adventures and (in this book specifically), how friendship and family relationships can be pushed to the limit. By the end, Tyler and Eden do let everyone know about their feelings for each other and the end result is explosive. I had to keep rereading the ending of the story because I seriously couldn’t believe what had just happened.
This series has surprisingly become one of my favourites and now that I know Estelle Maskame had started off this story on Wattpad, I wish I had been there to see it grow into what it is now. Did I Mention I Need You? is a roller coaster ride of romantic adventures and conflicting emotions. This book in the series really exposed how friendships can be tested, and how one thing has the power to change/destroy everything. I finished this in about a day and I’m really upset that I have to wait until January for the next (and LAST) book! This book is out on the 19th October but I have heard that most Waterstones have early copies, so what are you waiting for?
Favourite quote: “…If being in love means you’d do anything and everything for them,” he murmurs, “then I’m endlessly in love with you.”
